July 29, 2008 | Men's Golf, Women's Golf
PRINCETON ? Princeton golf coaches Will Green and Amy Bond have announced a trio of incoming freshmen to join the men's and women's golf programs in the fall.
Chase Lovett-Woodsum and Patrick Wasserman will join the men's golf team, while Wonji “Katie” Choi will join the women's team.
Choi, originally from South Korea, comes to Princeton from Santiago High in Corona, Calif. Competing on the boys' varsity team, Choi was named the school's outstanding senior athlete earlier this year. She helped her team to five straight years of league titles and 49 straight league wins. Away from scholastic competition, Choi qualified to play in the Junior World Championship in 2006 and has competed in numerous American Junior Golf Association and Southern California PGA events. Choi won the Junior Worlds/Westfield qualifier with a 70, the Shadow Ridge Junior Championship with a 69 and the El Prado Junior Championship with a 75.
"Wonji brings a lot of experience and skill with her to our program,” Bond said. “Her personality and work ethic will be a welcomed addition. I expect great things from her and know that she going to make a big impact on our veteran team."
Lovett-Woodsum, a Boston native who is coming to Princeton from Buckingham Browne & Nichols, was a four-time first-team All-Independent School league honoree at BB&N. The 2007 winner of the Independent School League Kingman Tournament, Lovett-Woodsum was named to the Boston Globe's All-Scholastic team that year and picked up the league's first hole-in-one in tournament play earlier this year while his team won a league title.
Wasserman, from Chepachet, Rhode Island, spent his final two years of high school at Walnut Hill after starting at Moses Brown. While at his first high school, Wasserman earned three first-team all-league honors, starting in eighth grade. His final year at Moses Brown, Wasserman helped the team to a league title. At the Optimist International tournament, Wasserman had the low round of 66 and has competed nine times in the Junior Worlds event. Wasserman has also played in the Rhode Island Open, finishing 16th in 2006, while also competing on the state's team at the Northeast Juniors tournament.
"We're thrilled to have Chase and Patrick joining us this fall,” Green said. “Both are proven winners who are continuing to get better. As such, we expect them to contribute to our program right away and provide a solid foundation for the future of Princeton golf."
