HEMPSTEAD, N.Y.
? The late-game drama that punctuated the opening of Myslik Field at Roberts
Stadium to start the weekend wasn't present for the Princeton
women's soccer team's first road match of the 2008 season Sunday at Hofstra.
While controlling possession much of the day, Hofstra made a
first-half goal stand up in a 1-0 win. Both teams now stand even on the young
season, Princeton at 1-1 and Hofstra at 2-2.
Both of Hofstra's wins came this weekend over Ivy League schools, with the
other also a 1-0 win at Columbia
Friday.
The Pride outshot Princeton
14-7 for the afternoon, with the Tigers' best chance coming on a rocket by
Sarah Peteraf that sailed just over the crossbar early in the second half.
Hofstra's goal came in the 22nd-minute, ending a
pinball-style sequence with a header by Tiffany Yovino inside the six-yard box.
After Princeton controlled the first 10
minutes, the Pride took possession for most of the rest of the half and outshot
the Tigers 9-1 for the opening period.
Princeton's first-half shot
was a bouncer from the top of the 18-yard-box by Marci Pasenello that found the
goalkeeper. The Tigers managed six shots in the second half, with Peteraf and
Vicki Anagnostopoulos putting their chances on net.
Princeton will travel Thursday for a pair of weekend games
in Texas,
Friday night at Texas A&M and Sunday afternoon at Rice.
