January 25, 2009 | Men's Swimming and Diving
The Princeton men's and women's swimming teams kept their perfect Ivy League records intact Sunday when they resumed their 2008-09 seasons against Dartmouth at DeNunzio Pool. Princeton also honored its senior classes during the meet, which saw the Tiger men win 182-111 and the Tiger women win 200-95.
WOMEN
Princeton nearly swept the entire session, and several competitors picked up wins for the 25th-ranked Tigers. The meet started with the 200 medley relay, as Mary Killian, Caitlin Baran, Kerry Gruendel and Emily Trautner won the event in 1:50.94. Freshman Aislinn Smalling won the first individual event, the 400 IM, in 4:34.97.
Junior Courtney Kilkuts, an NCAA qualifier last year, won the 200 free in 1:54.27, and followed up with wins in the 200 fly (2:05.67) and the 100 free (52.90). Aemisegger also swam a time trial in the 1650 and recorded a B-cut time of 16:00.35, which currently ranks third in the country.
The session ended with the team of Julie Kochman, Megan Waters, Trautner and Nicole McAndrew winning the 200 free in 1:39.22.
MEN
Princeton got off to a good start when A.J. Kennedy, Easton Chen, Chris Quemana and Jon Hartmann won the 200 medley relay in 1:35.15. Quemana followed his relay win by taking the 100 breast in 59.07, and senior Will Schaffer added a win in the 200 fly (1:49.70). Hartmann won the 50 free in 21.37, while Kennedy took the 100 free in 45.25. The fourth member of the opening relay team picked up an individual win when Chen took the 200 breast in 2:04.78.

Both
Princeton teams will face stiff tests next weekend as they head to
Cambridge, Mass., for the H-Y-P weekend. The Princeton women and the
Harvard men were respective league champions last season and have both
performed well early this year, but the Harvard women and Princeton men
(both runner-ups last year) have also put forth very fast times this
year; factor in talented competitors for both Yale teams, and there
should be strong competition at Blodgett Pool. The women will compete
Friday night and Saturday afternoon, while the men will compete
Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.
