Edwards Earns Ivy League Rookie of the Week Honors

PRINCETON, N.J. (1/5/09) - Freshman Lauren Edwards of the Princeton women's basketball team was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Monday, Jan. 5.
Edwards led Princeton in scoring this week, collecting 39 points, averaging 19.5 points per game. During the two games played this week, Edwards set seven personal bests including a career-best 26 points in game versus Lafayette on Friday, Jan. 2. During that contest she set personal bests in field goals made and attempted, 10-for-18, and three point field goals made and attempted, 4-for-7. Edwards scored nine of the team's 17 points in the second half, as they lost by a basket in the final second of the game.
Against Syracuse, Edwards she led the team in points with 13, assists with four and steals with four. Her four steals and four assists are her personal highs in a game. In two games she shot 45.5 percent from the field, 50 percent from behind the arc and 1.000 percent from the free throw line. She also collected 11 rebounds, six steals, five assists and one block.
Edwards has started the last four games for the Tigers, filling in for senior Whitney Downs, who has been out with an illness.
This is the second time that Edwards has garnered this award, earning the honor on Nov. 17.
Princeton hosts Rider on Tuesday, Jan. 6 at 7 p.m.
