Women's Basketball Closes Out Non-Conference Slate Hosting Rider

PRINCETON, N.J. (1/6/09) - The Princeton University women's basketball team closes out its non-conference slate on Tuesday, Jan. 6 when it hosts Rider at 7 p.m.
Princeton has a substantial 17-8 record versus Rider in the all-time
series that began in 1972. The Tigers won the first 11 games over a
span of 20 years, but lately its been the Broncs that have come on
strong. They came away with a 45-42 win, and have won four of the last
six meetings.
Princeton enters its final non-conference game of the season with a 4-9 record. The Tigers are 3-1 when playing at Jadwin Gym and have hoping to break a five-game winless streak tonight. Sophomore Addie Micir leads the team in scoring, averaging 13.0 points per game. She is shooting 40.7 percent from behind the arc and 88.2 percent from the free throw line. Micir has chipped in 53 rebounds, 23 assists, 10 steals and four blocks. Senior Whitney Downs is contributing 10.9 and the Ivy League Rookie of the Week Edwards is adding 9.3 points per game. She ranks first in steals on the team with 20, has 19 assists and 47 rebounds. Defensively, freshman Devona Allgood leads the squad with 5.5 rebounds per game and 1.3 blocks per game.
Rider sports a 2-10 record with its wins against Colgate and Fairleigh Dickinson. They squad is 1-5 when playing away from the Alumni Gym. The Broncs fell to Marist just two days ago, 65-49.Tammy Meyers is the team's leading scorer with 13.4 points per game and has a team-best 33 assists. Amanda Sepulvada is also averaging double digits, scoring 10.8 points per game. Shaunice Parker is the leader on the glass with 7.4 boards per game, with Meyers grabbing 6.3 per game. Parker also leads the team in steals with 21 and blocks with 10.
Princeton and Rider have played two common teams this year, Fairleigh Dickinson and Monmouth. The Tigers won both games, while Broncs split both games in overtime. Princeton defeated FDU 62-47 and Monmouth 52-41. Rider defeated FDU by one point, and lost to Monmouth by two points.
