Scott Britton Named Ivy League Defensive Player Of The Week
October 12, 2009 | Football
Linebacker Scott Britton, who currently ranks fourth in the nation in tackles, was named the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week after a brilliant effort Thursday night in the near-upset of No. 23 Colgate.
Britton, a senior captain and 2008 All-Ivy honoree, led Princeton with 16 tackles, including 2.5 for losses, and one sack in the 21-14 double-overtime loss to Colgate during the nationally televised (ESPNU) contest on Thursday. Britton has recorded 33 total tackles in the last two games and ranks fourth nationally with 12.3 tackles per game. Ironically, that isn't enough to put him as the team leader; Steven Cody ranks second nationally with 14.3 tackles per game.
"Scott prepares well for every game and plays with a great motor," said linebackers coach Don Dobes. "I thought he was all over the field against Colgate. He did a great job filling open gaps and creating third-and-long opportunities. He does a good job fitting in wherever needed."
Britton, who has 161 career tackles despite missing most of his freshman season with a knee injury, will lead Princeton into the heart of the Ivy League season this Saturday when the Tigers head to Providence for a showdown with Brown at 12:30 on the Versus Network.
