Princeton to Host Ivy Match Play Event in Massachusetts This Weekend
October 14, 2009 | Men's Golf
PRINCETON -- The course is more than 260 miles away from campus, but the Princeton men's golf team will host the inaugural Ivy League Match Play event Saturday and Sunday at The Bay Club in Mattapoisett, Mass., on the southern coast of the Bay State.
The event will involve all eight Ivy teams playing in a bracket format with two matches Saturday and one Sunday as the eight schools are slotted into place finishes. In its first match, Princeton will take on Yale Saturday morning, putting five Tigers against five Bulldogs with hole-by-hole scoring determining the winner rather than stroke play. Just as in Princeton's match with Stanford last month, the winning individual will have claimed more holes of 18 than his opponent, with the first team to have three winning individuals claiming the team match.
In the second round, Princeton will meet either Columbia or Brown, with one of Penn, Cornell, Dartmouth or Harvard waiting in its final match.
The Bay Club course has a maximum length of 7,041 yards with a par of 71. It will be Princeton's final fall tournament of 2009.
