Men's Tennis Has Successful Friday at ITA Regionals

HANOVER, N.H. -- On the first full day of play at the ITA Northeast Regional at Dartmouth, the Princeton men's tennis team won four of its five matches, including three singles victories and a doubles win.
In doubles play, Ilya Trubov and Alex Faust defeated 13th-seeded Akash Muppidi and Jonathan Schroeder of Boston College 8-6 in the first round and will face Enric Larregola and Mikhail Sudakov of St. Bonaventure in a second-round match Saturday at 10 a.m. There are six rounds in the bracket of 56 teams, eight of which, including the Princeton team of Yohei Shoji and Matt Siow, received a bye to the second round. Shoji and Siow will face Dom Hemy and Sven Sjoerds Saturday at 9 a.m. in their first match.
Here are the first-round results and second-round matches for Princeton's singles players:
Matt Spindler (Princeton), bye to second round, will face Loic Sessagesimi of Marist Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
Charlie Brosens (Princeton) def. Joe Goldstein (Connecticut), 6-4, 6-0; will face 5th seed Alexei Chijoff-Evans of Harvard Saturday at 11 a.m.
Nicolas Pisecky (Marist) def. Ravi Yegya-Raman (Princeton), 6-3, 6-7(5), 6-3
Matt Siow (Princeton) def. Mitch Wong (Stony Brook), 6-3, 6-7(5), 6-0; will face 17th seed Pavel Cerny of St. John's Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
Yohei Shoji (Princeton) def. Evan Algier (Binghamton), 7-5, 6-2; will face 17th seed Ivan Rummel of Stony Brook Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
There are a total of seven rounds in the singles draw with play scheduled to continue through Tuesday.
