Dartmouth Trips Up Men's Soccer 4-2 in League Opener

HANOVER, N.H. (10/3/09) - The Dartmouth men's soccer team scored three goals in the final 15 minutes to record a 4-2 win over Princeton in the Ivy League opener on Saturday, Oct. 3 at Burnham Field.
The teams ended the first half tied at 1-1, before the Big Green took the lead in the 75th minute. The squad then scored two goals in a two-minute span before the Tigers added a goal in the final minute.
Lucky Mkosana put the Big Green on the scoreboard in the 34th minute when he chipped the ball into the goal behind goalkeeper Sean Lynch.
Freshman Matt Sanner evened the game in the 41st minute with his second goal of the season, when he beat his defenders and played the ball around a diving keeper.
The teams continued the battle in the second half but neither team had a shot on goal for nearly 25 minutes before Princeton had back-to-back shots off corner kicks collected by keeper Sean Donovan.
Despite the chances, it was Dartmouth that got the next goal in the 76th minute. Andrew Olsen picked up a Mkosana cross and sent the ball in from the top of the box into the lower corner.
Sanner nearly collected his second goal of the night with seven minutes left to play, but Donovan came out of the goal and made a sliding move to take the ball away.
Teo Larsson-Sax made it 3-1 when he redirected the ball in traffic off of a Big Green corner kick at 85:59, and Craig Henderson gave the team a three-goal lead at 87:35 when he connected with Austin Bowers.
With 55 seconds to play, junior defender Benjamin Burton put the ball away after a scramble in front of the Dartmouth net for the final Princeton goal.
Dartmouth had a 19-7 advantage in shots, including an 11-2 differential in the first half. Corner kicks were even at four apiece.
In goal, Lynch made five stops for Princeton which falls to 4-4 on the season, while Donovan came up with three saves for Dartmouth which is now 6-2-1 overall.
Princeton hosts Adelphi on Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 6 p.m.
