Philadelphia Big 5 Tournament Ahead for Men's Golf
October 08, 2009 | Men's Golf
PRINCETON -- The next-to-last tournament of the fall season for the Princeton men's golf team will send the Tigers to the Philadelphia Cricket Club for the Big 5 Invitational. Princeton has competed in the event in the fall of 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2007 this decade, winning it in '04 and tying for second in '07.
This year's event is slated to be a 16-team tournament with four Ivies, including Penn, Harvard, Cornell and Princeton. Naturally, all members of the Big 5 will be in the tournament as well as Drexel to make it a "city six" event. Joining the Ivies and the six Philadelphia schools will be West Florida, Campbell, Navy, Richmond, Boston College, St. John's and Binghamton.
The tournament will be a two-round event with one round each Saturday and Sunday, as it was when Princeton was last in the event in 2007. That year, Andrew Maliniak '09 and current senior Juan Pablo Candela tied for top-Tiger honors at +7, with current sophomore Evan Harmeling, Max Schechter '09 and current senior Jake Skinner rounding out the Princeton contingent.
After the Philadelphia event, Princeton will join the rest of the Ivy schools for a match play event in Massachusetts Oct. 17-18.
