PRINCETON, N.J. (11/11/09) - The Princeton women's basketball team kicks off the 2009-10 campaign on Friday, Nov. 13 at Stony Brook. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
The game is available online for viewing for a cost of $6.95. Live audio and live stats will also be provided free of charge.
Stony Brooks holds a 2-1 edge over Princeton in the all-time series. The Seawolves won games in 2001 and 2002. Last season, the Tigers posted an 88-41 win over the Long Island school.
All-time Princeton is 17-21 in season openers. In the past five years have posted a 3-2 mark in openers. Princeton defeated Fordham, 69-57, in last season's opener.
Princeton finished last season with a 14-14 overall record and a 9-5 record in the Ivy League. The squad returns eight of its letterwinners from last season, and three starters. Last year's leading scorer Addie Micir returns for her junior season, after averaging 11.8 points per game. She led the team in free-throw percentage and three-point shooting with marks of .843 and .367, respectively. She also dished out the second-most assists on the team with 57, and had 22 teals and 14 blocks. Sophomore Lauren Edwards chipped in 9.6 points per game and 4.3 rebounds per game and was second on the team in steals with 34. Top-rebounder Devona Allgood is back for her sophomore campaign. She averaged 6.9 boards per game and had a team-high 44 blocks. Other key contributors back on the hardwoods, is senior center Cheryl Stevens, and guards Krystal Hill and Laura Johnson.
Stony Brook returns four starters and seven players total from its 2008-09 squad that went 6-23 2008-09. The team was recently selected to finish seventh in the preseason America East poll, where the Seawolves settled last season. The Seawolves bring back their top two scorers from last season, seniors Kirsten Jeter and Misha Horsey, who averaged 12.5 and 10.3 points per game, respectively. Jeter also led the team on the glass with 6.2 rebounds per game. Horsey finished the season with a team-best 102 assists, while Jeter had a team-high 60 steals.
