PRINCETON (11/13/09) -- Senior Cam MacIntyre scored 37 seconds into overtime to lift the 19th-ranked Princeton men's hockey team to a 2-1 win over Dartmouth on Friday night at Hobey Baker Rink.
Princeton outshot Dartmouth in each period and 41-24 for the game but struggled to put the puck past Dartmouth netminder Jody O'Neill, who shut out the Tigers in two games last season. The Tiger snapped the scoreless string late in the first period when junior Mike Kramer scored his second goal of the season by stuffing a pass from senior Mark Magnowski in along the post. Junior Matt Arhontas also assisted on the goal.
Princeton continued to pressure Dartmouth in the second period, nearly taking a 2-0 lead when MacIntyre rang a point-blank shot off the post midway through the stanza. Dartmouth held off the Tigers on two power plays late in the period and then took advantage of a power-play chance of its own with 42 seconds left in the period. Kyle Reeds grabbed the puck along the boards and fed a bnouncing puck to Scott Fleming at the top of the circles. Fleming settled the puck and took a quick shot to even the score at 1-1.
Neither team scored in the third period as the Tigers controlled play early, building an 11-1 shot edge in the period, and Dartmouth came on late, forcing Princeton junior goalie Alan Reynolds to make several big saves late in the contest.
In overtime, Dartmouth controlled play off the opening faceoff putting pressure on the Princeton net, but senior Jody Pederson was able to chip the puck to an empty-spot in the defensive zone, where MacIntyre picked it up and skated end-to-end for the game-winning goal. MacIntyre skated into the neutral zone, crossing to the oppsosite side of the ice, then went in low and beat O'Neill through the five-hole for his first goal of the season.
Reynolds made 23 saves for the win, while O'Neill made 39 stops in the loss.
Princeton is now 3-2 overall and 2-1 in the ECAC. The Tigers host Harvard Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m.
