Rookies Lead Women's Fencing at Penn State

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Princeton's freshmen put on a strong performance for the women's fencing team at Penn State Saturday, representing the top Tiger finishers in all three weapons at Penn State's Garret Open, and individual event.
In the foil, Brianna Martin finished fifth of 56 competitors and seven Princeton fencers in the weapon. Hannah Safford placed eighth of 54 epee fencers and six Tigers, and Joanna Cichomski placed fourth of three Princeton sabreists and 45 overall.
Competitors represented many of the country's top fencing programs alongside Princeton, including Penn State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Yale, Temple, Northwestern, Harvard, Duke, North Carolina and Yale.
Princeton's men will compete Sunday at Penn State.
