PRINCETON (11/6/09) -- After falling behind in the first period, St. Lawrence scored three second period goals to gain a lead and go on to defeat the 13th-ranked Princeton men's hockey team 5-2 on Friday night at Hobey Baker Rink.
Princeton controlled play in the opening period, outshooting St. Lawrence 18-8 and going ahead at 2:45 when freshman Michael Sdao scored his first collegiate goal with a blast from the point. Junior Sam Sabky carried the puck into the zone and took a shot that was steered to the corner. He chased it down and fed Sdao who one-timed the pass. Sophomore Brodie Zuk also assisted on the goal.
The Saints took control of play in the second period and drew even on the scoreboard at 8:23 when Mike McKenzie scored to complete a 3-on-1 rush up ice. Kyle Flanagan began the play at his own blue line and Jeremiah Cunningham fed McKenzie on the doorstep for the goal.
The Saints then went ahead at 13:48 when Max Mobley stuffed in a rebound while shorthanded. Jacob Drewiske took the initial shot and Mobley scored following up. The Saints made it 3-1 late in the period when Aaron Bogosian skated end-to-end and scored. Jared Keller scored early in the third to go ahead 4-1.
Princeton chipped a goal off the Saint lead late as the Tigers drew a pair of penalties and pulled senior goaltender Zane Kalemba to skate with a three-man advantage. Senior Jody Pederson took a shot from the point that senior Tyler Beachell deflected in between the circles and past St. Lawrence goaltender Alex Petizian for his second goal of the season. Junior Taylor Fedun also has an assist on the goal.
Kalemba made 25 saves in the loss, while Petizian made 32 saves to pick up the win. Princeton was 1 for 6 with the man advantage, while St. Lawrence was 0 for 7, although the Saints did score shorthanded.
