Navy Tops Men's Water Polo in Southern Title Game

LEWISBURG, Pa. (11/8/09) -- The Princeton men's water polo team fell to Navy 10-5 in the title game of the 2009 CWPA Southern Championships on Sunday afternoon at Bucknell. Navy jumped to an early lead in the game and built its lead throughout the game.
Navy took two of the three regular season meetings between the teams and has now edged Princeton in the ECAC and Southern Championship games this season. Princeton defeated Navy in Southern title game a season ago. The teams were the top two seeds entering the tournament.
Junior Matt Hale scored two goals in the loss. Seniors Mark Zalewski and Douglas Wigley, and sophomore Chris Cottrell also added goals.
The Tigers fall to 12-11 with the loss. Princeton is off next weekend but returns to action the following weekend for the CWPA Eastern Championships, which will be played at MIT.
