PRINCETON, N.J. (12/12/09) - Sophomore Lauren Edwards scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Princeton women's basketball team to an 80-47 win over Lafayette on Saturday, Dec. 12 at Jadwin Gym. Edwards shot 4 for 6 from long range, went 4 for 4 from the line, had five rebounds, four steals, two blocks and two assists.

As a team, Princeton shot 50 percent from the floor, was 42.9 from behind the arc and 66.7 from the charity stripe, and scored 37 of its points off of turnovers.
"Lafayette is a rhythm team and we asked our players to be disruptive on the defense end, and 19 steals shows the kids were committed to bust up their sets,” head coach Courtney Banghart said. “I thought the energy of the second group was real lift,” she said in referring to getting 22 points off the bench.Last year the Tigers squandered a 22-point lead over the Leopards and today's 33-point win gave them a sense of justice.
“One of our keys for today's game, we talked about how we are 0-2 against them, was to surpass where we were last year," Banghart said. "Today was a pretty emphatic way to show ourselves that we've come along way.”
Princeton started on a 15-1 run paced by two three's by Edwards.
The Leopards hit the game's next nine points to make it a five-point game, 15-10, at 12:01. That would be as close as Lafayette would get.
Princeton went on a 7-2 run to regain a double-double lead, 22-12 at 10:39. The teams traded baskets through the next 5:57 before a 9-0 Tigers run gave the team it's largest lead of the half, at 16-point edge, with 1:50 to play. Lafayette scored three in the final 1:24 to come within 13, 36-23 at the half.
At the conclusion of the first, Edwards has 17 points, shooting 6-11 from the floor, 3-5 from long range and 2-2 from the line. She also had three steals and two boards.
Princeton came out of the locker room to go on a 10-4 tear in the first five minutes of the second half to make it 46-27. The Tigers continued to pad their lead scoring 12 of the next 20 points to make it 58-35 with 10 minutes to play. Princeton finished out the game on a 22-12 run, getting a career-best eight points from senior Tani Brown to end the game in favor of the Tigers, 80-47.
Lafayette was led by Elizabeth Virgin's 15 points and Lauren Jackson's 11 points. LaKeisha Wright and Sarah McGorry each pulled down a team-best eight rebounds. The Leopards shot 32.1 percent, going 17 for 53 from the field. They were 35.7 from behind the arc and 72.7 from the line.
