Top Female Athletes Of The Decade: No. 3 Caroline Lind '06
December 28, 2009 | Women's Rowing - Open
It's difficult in a sport like rowing to choose one individual out of the entire boat, and that's how those who compete in the sport like it.
Still, every now and then, it's obvious that there's one rower who is, well, driving the boat.
The 2006 Princeton women's open first varsity 8 romped to the NCAA championship, defeating second-place Cal by more than six seconds. It's one of the great performances in the history of women's crew and one of the most dominating moments ever by a Princeton team.
Princeton also went 14-0 in 2006 and won the Ivy League championship by taking Eastern Sprints by nearly eight full seconds over the runner-up boat.
The stroke of that boat was Caroline Lind, a two-time All-America and three-time All-Region selection. Lind led Princeton to the 2006 NCAA title after a runner-up finish her junior year.
Her rowing career didn't end with graduation, however. She went on to earn the No. 6 seat in the United States women's 8 boat at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, and Lind and U.S. would go on to win the gold medal.
