Princeton's Comeback Falls Short in 43-42 Loss at Dartmouth
February 22, 2009 | Women's Basketball
HANOVER, N.H. (2/21/09) ? In a game that saw six lead changes and the score tied six times, it was Dartmouth that was able to set up the final basket and walk away with a 43-42 win over Princeton in women's basketball on Saturday, Feb. 21 at Leede Arena.
With Princeton leading 42-41, Margaret Smith put back a layup with 1:41 remaining to give Dartmouth its first lead since 8:48. With 23 seconds to play, Princeton brought the ball down the court and senior Whitney Downs went up with the ball but it was batted away and went off of a Tiger to give Dartmouth possession with 12.3 seconds on the clock.
Before the Big Green could inbound the ball, sophomore Krysal Hill forced a foul sending Brittney Smith to the line to shoot a one-and-one. Smith missed her shot and freshman Devona Allgood went up to grab the rebound and Coach Banghart instantly called a timeout. With 10.6 seconds on the clock, Downs inbounded the ball to senior Jessica Berry who dribbled down the court and with three seconds on the clock, got into the paint, and went up with a jumper that bounced off the rim as time expired.
“That is about as well played a game as I could have hoped for,” Coach Banghart said. “We had key stops when we needed them and fought back when they went on their run and we executed exactly as we wanted to on offense. The three by Addie, the leftie layup by Whitney and the open free-throw line jumper by Jess are what we wanted, but they didn't fall. I thought we did a very good job on Brittney and Koren again. To play that hard, and that well, and not finish it has been the story of our season. We talked about it after the game, and we are going ton continue to learn from this. It's just part of the journey.”

The Tigers went on a 9-3 run including a three-pointer from Micir to bring the game within three, 30-27 at 12:10.
