Women's Basketball Returns to New England

PRINCETON, N.J. (2/25/09) ? The Princeton women's basketball team will make its final overnight weekend trip as it travels to Brown and Yale this weekend. The Tigers take on Brown on Friday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m., and Yale on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m.
Live audio will be available free of charge and live stats will be available for the Yale game. The games will also be webcast via Tiger Zone for registered users.
Princeton fell to 9-14 on the season after losing to Harvard and Dartmouth on the road by a combined five points. The Tigers are now 4-5 in Ivy League play, fifth place in the standings, with five games remaining. Sophomore Addie Micir leads the team in scoring with 11.7 points per game and is the team's best three-point shooter averaging 35.6 percent from long range, and best free-throw shooter draining 87 percent of her chances. Senior Whitney Downs and freshman Lauren Edwards are contributing 9.6 and 9.0 points per game, and are the team's top steals leaders with 35 and 27, respectively. Freshman Devona Allgood has the best field goal percentage on the team knocking down 51 percent of her shots and leads the team in scoring since conference play began, averaging 11.2 points per game, while Micir has 10.4 points per game. Allgood leads the team on the glass with 6.5 rebounds per game and also has a team-high 33 blocks. Senior Julia Berger is second in the rebounding column with 4.2 boards per game, while junior Cheryl Stevens is second in blocks with 27. Senior Jessica Berry leads the team in assists with 59, while Micir has 47.
Princeton leads the all-time series with Brown, which dates back to 1974, by a slim 31-29 advantage. The Tigers are on a six-game winning streak over the Bears that dates back to 2006. Princeton has not lost a game to Brown since Feb. 4, 2006 in Providence, and recorded a 66-41 win earlier this season. The games marked Princeton's largest margin of victory over an Ivy League opponent since 2004-05.
Brown sits last in the Ivy League standings with a 1-9 record, its lone win coming in a series split with Yale in mid-January. The team is 3-21 overall with its last win a two-point victory over Yale on Jan. 16. Sadiea Williams leads the team in scoring with 7.0 points per game, while Natalie Bonds is averaging 6.9, and Hannah Passafuime and Karly Grace are at 6.7 points per game. Bonds is the team leader on the glass, pulling down 5.3 rebounds per game and teammate Courtney Lee is next on the list with 4.3 rebounds per game. Bonds has a team-high 23 blocks and Lee has a league-high 63 steals and team-best 73 assists. Grace and Passafuime are the best shooters from the free-throw line shooting 85.7 and 70.0 percent, respectively. Sarah Delk has the best three-point average but Grace has knocked down the most on the team with 38 total. The team is averaging 49.8 points a game and allowing 69.4 points per game.
Princeton leads the series with Yale, which dates back to 1973, 40-30. Yale won the game earlier this season by two points. The last time the Tigers won in New Haven was Feb. 3, 2006, a 53-37 victory.
Yale enters the weekend with a 10-14 overall record and a 3-7 Ivy League record that situates them seventh in the standings. Melissa Colborne leads the team in scoring, averaging 16.2 points per game, and has a team-high 64 assists. She is the team's top free throw shooter, nailing 81.7 percent of her chances. Haywood Wright and Yoyo Greenfield add 9.5 and 9.1 points per game, respectively. Wright has a team-high 7.5 rebounds per game, while Mady Gobrecht contributed 7.3 per game. Gobrecht leads the team in steals with 44, while Wright is the league's best blocker with 34. Jamie Van Horne and Greenfield are the best three point shooters on the team with 57 and 26 total. As a team, Yale is averaging 63.3 points per game and allowing 66.2 points per game.
