Women's Water Opens Season With Two Wins

PRINCETON -- The Princeton women's water polo kicked off the 2009 season with a pair of wins on Saturday against Mercyhurst and Villanova. Princeton scored 14 goals in each game to start the year 2-0. Sophomore Lauren Brunner led the way with five goals.
Princeton opened the day with a 14-2 win over Mercyhurst in the morning, scoring seven times in the opening quarter and never looking back in the decisive win. Brunner scored three times, while senior Liz Dilday and freshman Katlin Poladian both scored twice.
In the nightcap, Brunner and senior Claire Jacobson each scored a pair of goals in a 14-0 win over Villanova, Princeton's first shutout in nearly nine years, dating back to a 13-0 win over Penn in March of 2000. The Tigers scored three times in the first half and never looked back.
In other action at DeNunzio Pool, Bucknell picked up two wins, topping Villanova 15-3 and Mercyhurst 14-1.
