Softball Ends Spring Trip with 9-6 Loss to Winthrop

PALO ALTO, Calif. -- Following a Saturday with high-scoring games, the Princeton softball team had another Sunday with Winthrop outscoring the Tigers 9-6 in the team's final game on the spring trip.
Winthrop (11-14) scored five runs off Princeton starter Jamie Lettire (1-3) over the first two innings and the Tigers were never able to close the gap.
The game stood at 7-3 heading into the fifth after RBIs from Erin Miller, Kelsey VandeBergh and Collette Abbott for thee Tigers, but Winthrop pushed it to 9-3 in its half of the fifth.
RBIs from Megan Weidrick and Kristin Arguedas helped Princeton halve the deficit in the bottom of the sixth, but Princeton (5-9) got only a VandeBergh single in the seventh as Winthrop closed the win.
Princeton will open the Ivy League schedule next weekend against Yale and Brown at Class of 1895 Field.
