Dan Dickerson And Doug Lennox Share Princeton Army ROTC Athlete Of The Week Honors
March 09, 2009 | Men's Swimming and Diving
Junior Dan Dickerson and senior Doug Lennox got the job done in different areas of the pool, but their performances led to the same result. Both won a pair of events last weekend to help the 17th-ranked Princeton men's swimming and diving team to the 2009 Ivy League championship.
Lennox won the 100 and 200 fly individual titles and helped Princeton to wins in the 200 free, 400 free, 800 free and 400 medley relays at the league championship meet, held last weekend at DeNunzio Pool. He set Ivy League records in both fly events, and his 800 free relay opening leg set the league mark in the 200 free. His 100 fly time of 45.12 is currently the third-fastest in the nation, while his 200 fly time of 1:42.78 is tenth-fastest. Lennox earned All-America honors in the 200 last year and went on to swim both events in the 2008 Olympics.
Dickerson had never won a diving title at the Ivy League Championships prior to last weekend, but he led off the championships by taking the 1-meter competition with 317.85 points. He proved that win was no fluke by winning the very competitive 3-meter competition with 342.15 points. Dickerson's win gave Princeton a clean sweep on the Ivy League boards, as senior Katie Giarra swept both women's events one week earlier.
