April 15, 2009 | Softball
PRINCETON -- Jamie Lettire was named the Ivy League Player of the Week Wednesday for helping Princeton to a four-game sweep of Columbia over the weekend both at the plate and in the pitching circle.
Lettire hit .667 (6 for 9), slamming four home runs for a slugging percentage of 2.000 while also drawing four walks for an on-base percentage of .769. Lettire's fourth home run was a walk-off shot that gave the Tigers a 5-4 win to complete the sweep.
In the circle, Lettire won the first game of each day's doubleheader. On the season, Lettire is hitting .324, second-best on the team and leads the Tigers with eight home runs. She carries a 5-5 pitching record into the final two weeks of Princeton's regular season.
The award is Princeton's first Ivy honor this season, in either the Player of the Week, Pitcher of the Week or Rookie of the Week category. Lettire was the Player of the Week twice last season, including the final week of the year as the Tigers completed an 18-2 Ivy season.
The Tigers, who stand three games back of Cornell in the Ivy South division with eight games to play, will pause from Ivy action to visit Rutgers Thursday for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
