April 19, 2009 | Women's Water Polo
COLLEGE PARK, Md. ? Maryland defeated the Princeton women's water polo team 14-10 on Saturday night to claim the 2008 CWPA Southern Division Championship. The Tigers, which were the tournament's third seed, knocked off second-seeded Bucknell to advance to the title game and earn a berth in next weekend's Eastern Championships.
The teams were tied 3-3 after a period and Princeton scored to lead the game 4-3 early in the second quarter before Maryland scored six consecutive goals to take a five-goal halftime lead. The Terps held off the Tigers in the second half to secure the victory.
Princeton outscored Maryland by a goal in the third quarter, but would get no closer in the 14-10 final. Sophomore Lauren Brunner, junior Carolina Ardila and freshman Audrey Zak all scored twice in the loss.

By placing second at Southerns the Tigers ensured their season would continue at next weekend's CWPA Eastern Championship at Harvard.
