Women's Track Begins Penn Relays with a Full Day of Competition on Thursday

PRINCETON, N.J. (4/22/09) ? The Princeton women's track and field teams will compete at the 115th Penn Relays Thursday, April 23 through Saturday, April 25. All track and jumping events will take place at Franklin Field, while throwing events will take place on fields near Franklin Field.
The majority of the events that the Tigers will compete in take place on Thursday, with four events on Friday and one on Saturday.
Freshman Lydia Arias will kick things off at 10 a.m., on Thursday, in the women's collegiate pole vault. Senior Jessica Kloss will compete in the championship division of the event at 3 p.m. At 12:15 p.m., sophomore Emma Ruggiero will compete in the collegiate hammer and senior Emma Giunipero will take part in the collegiate discus at 4 p.m.
Sophomore Thanithia Billings and junior Aundeah Kearney will compete in the Eastern Shot Put and the Eastern Long Jump, respectively, during the afternoon.
The women'x 4x400 will compete against other Ivy League school in the heptagonal race at 6:40 p.m. An hour later, Megan Brandeland and Liz Dier will take place in the championship steeplechase.
The women's championship 3000 will feature seniors Liz Costello, Christy Johnson and sophomore Sarah Cummings at 8:30 p.m.. Following the 3000, will be the championship 5000, in which sophomore Ashley Higginson, junior Reilly Kiernan, senior Jolee VanLeuven and freshman Alex Banfich will run. VanLeuven will race again in the women's championship 10,000 later in the evening. Junior Alexa Glencer will be the lone Tiger in the Olympic development 5000 run at 9 p.m.
Friday's schedule for the Tigers will be a bit lighter. Sophomores Bianca Williams and Tiffany Liu will partake in the women's eastern triple jump at 11 a.m. The women's 4x200 will take place at 2:10. Princeton will also run in the women's shuttle hurdle Championship of America at 3:10 p.m., and the women's sprint medley Championship of America at 6:20 p.m.
The women's 4x800 Championship of America race will be held Saturday, at 2 p.m., the only event for the squad that day.
