Doubles Pairing of Taylor Marable and Hilary Bartlett Tabbed for NCAA Individual Tournament
April 29, 2009 | Women's Tennis
PRINCETON -- A day after learning where they would be headed as part of the NCAA team tennis championships, Taylor Marable and Hilary Bartlett were officially named to the NCAA doubles championships to take place May 20-25 at Texas A&M, the site of the team championship finals.
Bartlett, a freshman, and Marable, a sophomore, earned an automatic berth for being the top team from the Ivy while being ranked in the ITA top 60. The pair is ranked No. 50 nationally of 90 teams that the ITA ranks. Each conference with one doubles team in the ITA top 60 is guaranteed to get that team into the NCAA field, and multiple teams from the same conference are selected on an at-large basis.
The Tiger pair is in a 32-team bracket with the pairings to be released closer to the tournament date. Marable and Bartlett are the first Princeton pair to compete in the NCAA doubles tournament at least this decade, if not first-ever since the tournament began since 1982. The last individual to represent Princeton in the NCAA singles tournament was Kavitha Krishnamurthy in 2002.
Overall, Marable and Bartlett have a 23-10 record this season including 13-6 in dual meets with the other results coming in fall tournaments.
