PRINCETON -- Rider starting pitcher Derek Caldwell held the Princeton baseball team to five hits over eight innings in a 6-0 shut out on Tuesday afternoon at Clarke Field. Seniors Adrian Turnham and Dan DeGeorge had two hits for the Tigers.
Rider scored six runs in the game on 15 hits and went ahead with two runs in the third inning. The first came when Sean Olson hit a solo homer with two outs to left field, and the second came on Steve Gallela's double.
The Broncs tacked on two runs in the fifth when Olson and Gallela each drove in runs again. Rider added runs in the seventh on a Maurice Williams sac fly and the eighth on an A.J. Albee single.
Princeton managed just six hits in the loss. Turnham and DeGeorge each had two hits while senior Derek Beckman and sophomore Matt Connor had the other hits.
Caldwell scattered four hits and fanned eight over eight innings for the win, while junior Ross Staine took the loss after allowing the first two runs in the third inning.
The loss dropped Princeton to 9-14 overall. The Tigers are back in action on Saturday for a doubleheader against Columbia at Clarke Field.
