National Champion Women's Squash Visits New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine
May 27, 2009 | Women's Squash
The Princeton women's squash team, coming off its most dramatic national title during its current run of three straight Howe Cups, was recently honored by New Jersey governor Jon Corzine.
Princeton, which went undefeated in 2008-09 and clinched both the Ivy League title and Howe Cup national title with 5-4 victories over Harvard, was able to come together one more time for a team outing. After meeting at 8 a.m., the team arrived at Drumthwacket, the official residence of the Governor of New Jersey. Following a tour, the team went to the back porch and met Governor Corzine.
Following a team photo, Governor Corzine invited the team into the library and engaged the team in a conversation about the championship season, the women's respective hometowns and several questions about the sport of squash.
"It was exciting to receive the invitation to meet Governor Corzine," head coach Gail Ramsay said. "It was a pleasure meeting him and telling him about our exciting victory over Harvard at the Howe Cup. The team really appreciated the thoughtful gesture."
