Maag Punches Ticket for NCAA Championship after Day 1 of Regionals

GREENSBORO, N.C. (5/29/09) ? Senior Michael Maag highlighted the Princeton track and field performances at the 2009 NCAA East Regional at North Carolina A&T. Maag finished second in the 5000-meter run, clocking in at 14:13.68. His finish automatically advances him to the NCAA Championship in Arkansas.
Junior Liz Costello advances to the finals of the 1500-meter run after posting a time of 4:21.65 in the preliminaries. She will face the rest of the best on Saturday at 5:20 p.m., with the top five punching their tickets to Arkansas.
In other preliminary action today, freshman Alex Banfich and sophomore Sarah Cummings ran in the 1500. Cummings placed 11th and Banfich 37th with times of 16:32.55 and 17:19.55, respectively. Senior Agatha Offorjebe ran the 200 in 24.53 to take 23rd.
On the men's side, sophomore Mike Eddy came in 17th place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 47.15. Freshman Austin Hollimon was 28th in the 200 crossing the line at 21.69.
Junior Ian Fox finished in 17th place in the men's high jump finals, clearing 2.05 meters, while classmate Eric Plummer was 13th in the shot put finals with a throw of 17.03 meters.
Sophomore Emma Ruggiero finished 16th in the women's hammer throw finals, throwing to 48.76 meters.
A trio of Tigers will kick things off tomorrow with the men's hammer throw at 11 a.m.
