Pessala Closes Out Career at NCAA Championship

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (6/10/09) - Senior Alex Pessala competed in the men's hammer throw, one of the first events of the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship on the campus of the University of Arkansas.
Pessala fouled twice and got his third shot to land at 59.77 meters (196-01). At the end of the preliminary round his mark placed him 20th on the list, with just the top nine moving on to Friday's final. Pessala's best throw of the season and his career reached 69.06 meters (226-07), a Princeton program record.
This evening, two other Tigers will compete in their respective events. Sophomore Ashley Higginson will run the women's steeplechase at 7:50 p.m., followed by senior Michael Maag in the men's 5000-meter run at 9:25 p.m. Sophomore Sarah Cummings will run the 10000-meter run on Thursday at 8:55 p.m.
*UPDATE* Wednesday evening there was a weather delay (thunderstorms/lightning) beginning at around 7 p.m., local time. Seven events remained at the time of the delay. No word yet on when these events will be re-scheduled.
