Jack Murphy Chosen by Toronto in Round 31 of 2009 MLB Draft

Junior catcher Jack Murphy became the third Tiger to be drafted in the 2009 Major League Baseball Draft when he was selected in the 31st round on Thursday afternoon with the 940th overall pick.
Murphy received All-Ivy honors in each of his three seasons with the Tigers, earning an honorable mention as a freshman and garnering first-team honors as both a sophomore and junior. Murphy was a .324 career hitter in college and had 48 career extra-base hits, including 18 home runs. He ranks sixth all-time at Princeton in career home runs, seventh in slugging percentage (.529) and 14th in career RBIs (93).
Murphy has also excelled defensively at Princeton and owns the top career fielding percentage of any Tiger. He is also first in career putouts and has thrown out more than 29% of attempted base stealers (54-185).
Murphy joins classmate David Hale and senior Brad Gemberling as Tigers picked in this year's draft. Hale was selected Tuesday night in the third round of the Draft by Atlanta. Gemberling was selected in the 24th round yesterday by Arizona. Princeton's three selections are it's most in a single draft since five Tigers were selected in the 2004 draft.
