Men's Swimming/Diving Announces 2010 Captains, '09 Award Winners
June 02, 2009 | Men's Swimming and Diving
When the Princeton men's swimming and diving team goes out to defend its Ivy League championship in the winter of 2010, it will be led by a trio of strong seniors. Daniel Dickerson, Jon Hartmann and Chris Quemana were named captains for the 2009-10 season, while the team award winners for the previous season were also announced.
Dickerson was Princeton's breakout star in winning the 2009 Ivy League championship at its own DeNunzio Pool. Without a league title on his resume, Dickerson came into the 2009 conference meet and swept both the 1- and 3-meter competitions to earn Ivy League Championship Diver of the Meet honors. Along with classmate Michael Papageorge and several talented underclassmen, Dickerson will lead what could be the deepest diving corps in the league next season.
Hartmann was part of three championship free relay teams at the 2009 league championship meet, and he went on to earn All-America honors at the NCAA Championships with those same relays. He anchored all three relays (the 200, 400 and 800 free) and will be the only senior from any of the three remaining on the roster. Hartmann had two second-place individual finishes at the 2009 championship meet (200 IM, 200 free) and one fourth-place finish (100 free); in all three events, he was the top non-senior finisher.
Quemana, a breast and IM specialist, made two conference finals at the 2009 meet and peaked with a fifth-place finish in the 200 IM. He also finished eighth in the 400 IM and placed seventh in the B-level final of the 200 breast.
While those three will look to lead the future, Princeton did celebrate one of its most successful seasons ever by honoring several members with team awards:
The William B. Nash Memorial Trophy
Presented in memory of William B. Nash '55 by his teammates of the Class of 1955 for outstanding sportsmanship and performance by a freshman.
