PRINCETON -- Junior Collette Abbott and senior Kathryn Welch were recipients of the Princeton softball program's two seasonal awards, the Cindy Cohen Award and the Patton-Poole Award, head coach Trina Salcido has announced.
Abbott won the Patton-Poole Award, given "to the player who in play, sportsmanship and influence has been most valuable to the team." The second baseman had a surge at the plate in the Ivy season, hitting .438 in the 14 league games. Overall, Abbott hit .352, which was second on the team to Welch. Abbott was a first-team All-Ivy League honoree for the first time in her three seasons.
Welch hit a team-best .376 over the season on her way to making it 4 for 4 in All-Ivy League credentials with an honorable mention in 2009. Welch's efforts earned the team co-captain the Cindy Cohen Award, which is "awarded to the senior who through sportsmanship, dedication and consistent effort has been an inspiration to her teammates."
