Princeton Women's Basketball Announces 2009-10 Schedule
July 08, 2009 | Women's Basketball
2009-10 Schedule
PRINCETON, N.J. (7/8/09) – Princeton head women's basketball coach Courtney Banghart has announced the schedule for the 2009-10 season.
The Tigers will play six non-league games at Jadwin Gym as well as hosting all six Ivy League opponents. Four teams on the schedule competed in the NCAA Tournament last season, including: Dartmouth, Drexel, Lehigh and Rutgers.
In keeping with team traditions, the Tigers will make two trips across country to California and Texas, to visit the hometowns of four Tigers. The team will play at UCLA and UC-Irvine around Thanksgiving. The area serves as the stomping ground of seniors Tani Brown, Cheryl Stevens and sophomore Lauren Edwards. The final game before the December holiday break will be at Houston, hometown on junior Krystal Hill.
“Our 2009-2010 schedule will challenge us early and often,” Banghart said. “At Princeton, we believe in preparing our team as best as we can and then challenging ourselves against the nation's best - both in region and beyond. We're very excited to be taking our southern Californians home for a series of games, as well as our Houston native Krystal Hill for a game in her backyard. Our hope is that our very difficult non-league schedule will prepare us well for the always-exciting Ivy League gauntlet. This team has set very high goals, competing hard night after night is pivotal to our progress and this schedule will force us to do just that.”
Princeton opens the season on Friday, Nov. 13 at Stony Brook with the home opener scheduled for the following Monday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m., versus American.
The Tigers defeated Stony Brook for the first time in series history last year by a score of 88-41, as the Seawolves won the two previous meetings. The Tigers will look to do the same this year with American. The Eagles are 2-0 in the series, which includes a 59-44 game from 2008.
