Princeton Native Chris Hoeland Named Men's Tennis Assistant Coach
September 08, 2009 | Men's Tennis
PRINCETON -- Chris Hoeland, a 2005 graduate of Princeton High School who had a successful collegiate career at Washington University in St. Louis, has joined the Princeton men's tennis staff as assistant coach.
“I've been lucky enough to have known Chris and his family ever since I arrived in Princeton 10 years ago," Princeton head men's tennis coach Glenn Michibata said. "He has good tennis ability and knowledge as well as the right amount of selfless, player-first mentality that all coaches need. I know he will make a big contribution to the success of this program.”
Hoeland, who had winning singles and doubles records in each of his four collegiate seasons, finished with a combined career record of 168-57. His 104-30 career doubles record set a Washington University wins record, and he finished with a 64-27 career singles mark while helping his team to the 2008 NCAA Division III team title. Hoeland was a three-time NCAA All-America selection for his doubles play and was a team captain as a senior.
Locally, Hoeland had a 100-9 record as a high schooler, leading to a first-team all-league selection and a county singles title during his career. He also helped PHS to a state Group III title.
Hoeland replaces Nestor Briceno, who served as assistant coach for the 2009 spring season before continuing his academic pursuits in law school.
