Women's Hoops Plays Final Non-Conference Game Tuesday at La Salle

PRINCETON, N.J. (1/3/09) - The Princeton women's basketball team will play its final non-conference game of the season on Tuesday, Jan. 5 when it travels to Philadelphia to take on La Salle. Tip off is scheduled for noon.

Princeton and La Salle will be meeting for the fifth time in series history and the first time in 32 years. La Salle won the first meeting in 1976 during the regular season by Princeton rebounded in the post season with a win. The Tigers picked up against the Explorers the next two seasons.
Princeton sports an 11-2 record, its best start in program history, and is on a six-game winning streak. The Tigers most recently defeated Fordham 75-61. The team has a +17.4 scoring margin, scoring 72.2 points per game and holding opponents to 54.8 points per game. Princeton is shooting at a rate of 45.2 percent from the floor, 69.2 percent from the free-throw line and 38.3 percent from behind the arc. The Tigers are led by the Ivy League leading scorer Niveen Rasheed, who averages 17.2 points per game and a team-best 7.2 rebounds per game. Rasheed also leads the team in steals with 28 and assists with 35. Junior Addie Micir and sophomore Lauren Edwards add 13.8 and 13.1 points per game, respectively. Both are shooting over 85 percent from the line. Micir has added 39 three-point attempts, while Edwards has 11 blocks. Sophomore Devona Allgood has a team-best 16 blocks and adds 9.7 points and 7.2 rebounds per game.
The Explorers are 5-9 overall and won its last game, a 67-51 win over Penn, its first victory at home this season. The team is averaging 53.4 points and limiting opponents to 59.5 points per game while shooting 38.2 percent from the floor. The Explorers are shooting 67.2 percent from the free-throw line and 33.0 percent from three-point range. La Salle is paced offensively by Morgan Robertson, who averages 10.8 points per game and leads the team in rebounds with 6.8 per game. Jamie Walsh and Ashley Gale are averaging 9.2 and 7.8 points per game. Gale leads the team steals and in blocks with 26 and six, respectively, and is adding 4.8 boards per game. Tara Lapetina has a team-high 39 assists with Walsh dishing out 34.
Princeton and La Salle have three common opponents, Drexel, Lehigh and Rider. The Tigers defeated all three teams, by a total score of 235-174, while La Salle lost to Lehigh while winning the other two by a total score of170-169.
