PRINCETON, N.J. (1/7/10) - The Princeton women's basketball team will open up the Ivy League season on Saturday, Jan. 9 at Penn. The teams will tip off at 7 p.m., at The Palestra.
The game will be webstreamed on GoPrincetonTigers.tv for subscribers. Live audio from broadcaster Derek Jones as well as live stats will be available free of charge.
Princeton and Penn will be meeting for the 67th time since the series began in 1974. The Tigers hold a 43-23 edge in the series and won both games last year. Princeton is 7-3 against Penn in the last 10 games.
Princeton heads into the Ivy League season with a 12-2 overall record and on a seven-game winning streak. The Tigers average 71.9 points per game while limiting opponents to 54.4 points per game for a +17.5 scoring margin. The team shoots 45.2 percent from the field, 39 percent from behind the arc and 68.6 percent from the free-throw line. Freshman Niveen Rasheed leads the team in scoring with 16.8 points per game and in rebounds with 7.8 per game. Junior Addie Micir is adding 13.1 points per game, while shooting 40 for 83 from long range. Sophomores Lauren Edwards and Devona Allgood contribute 12.7 and 10.2 points per game, respectively. Micir and Edwards are both shooting over 86 percent from the free-throw line, while junior Krystal Hill having the best mark at 90.5 percent. Rasheed leads the team in assists and steals with 40 and 30, respectively. Allgood has a team-high 19 blocks and adds 7.6 rebounds per game.
Penn is 1-11 on the season and picked up its first victory of the year on Dec. 31 with a 52-48 win over St. Francis (NY). The Quakers average 47.2 points per game while opponents are scoring 61.5 points, for a 14.2 scoring deficit. As a team, Penn is shooting 31 percent from the field, 21.1 percent from behind the arc and 62 percent from the free-throw line. Sarah Bucar leads the team in scoring with 10.8 points per game and takes the majority of three-point shots, hitting 23 of her team's 40. She along with Caroline Nicholson are the best free throw shooters, with each over 75 percent. Kim Adams is second on the team in scoring with 8.8 points per game and Jerin Smith has 7.4. Jess Knapp leads the team under the basket with 6.8 boards per game, while Adams and Smith average 5.7 rebounds per game. Knapp has a team-high 16 blocks, while Bucar has a team-best 22 steals. Caitlin Slover has a team-high 29 assists, while Bucar is right behind her with 28.
Princeton and Penn have played five common opponents: Drexel, Lafayette, La Salle, Lehigh and Rider. The Quakers are 0-5 against the teams, while the Tigers are 5-0.
