Men's Golf Leads Ivies at Big Five Invitational
October 10, 2010 | Men's Golf
PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. -- In a tournament that included seven of the eight Ivy League men's golf programs, the Princeton men's golf team finished first among its peers.
The Tigers' finish was good for a third-place tie overall at the 21-team Philadelphia Big Five Invitational, which wrapped Sunday at Plymouth Country Club outside Philadelphia. Princeton was second after Saturday's one round, but St. John's clipped the Tigers by one shot. Furman won the tournament at +14, eight shots ahead of St. John's and nine in front of Princeton and Kentucky.
Yale was the closest Ivy to Princeton, finishing tied for fifth overall and at +27, four shots behind the Tigers. Columbia, the defending Ivy champion, was the only league school not involved in the tournament.
On the individual leaderboard, Bernie D'Amato led Princeton at 2-over, one of four players tied for fifth overall. That group trailed Furman's Matthew Broome, the only player in red numbers at 7-under, as well as Kentucky's Joseph Barr at even par and two players at 1-over, Binghamton's Jake Katz and Harvard's Seiji Liu.
Princeton will take part in its final fall tournament Oct. 16-17 at the Shelter Harbor Invitational in Rhode Island. The Tigers' complete results are below, and the scores for all teams are available at the link above.
