Pecotic Advances to Final at ITA Regional
October 18, 2010 | Men's Tennis
NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Princeton's results from Monday's play at the ITA Northeast Regional at Yale are in, and sophomore Matija Pecotic has played himself into a main-draw singles final match to be played Tuesday.
Pecotic defeated Binghamton's Arnav Jain, 6-3, 6-3, in a quarterfinal match Monday morning and followed it up with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Marc Powers of Yale. In what was a busy start to the day for Pecotic, he and Matt Siow were on the short end of an 8-6 defeat to Alistair Felton and Andy Nguyen of Harvard in a doubles semifinal.
Pecotic will face Sven Vloedgraven of Binghamton in the final.
The Harvard pair will take on another Princeton twosome Tuesday when they face Augie Bloom and Matt Spindler in the final. At stake is a berth in the ITA's national individual tournament to be held Nov. 4-7 at the U.S. Tennis Center in Queens, N.Y.
In the final of the consolation draw, after winning four straight matches to advance to the final, Bloom fell short in a three-set defeat to Brown's Tim Klanke, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
