Men's Water Polo Downs Bucknell for Fourth League Win

PRINCETON (10/9/10) -- The 17th-ranked Princeton men's water polo team improved to 4-0 in the CWPA Southern Division with a 7-4 win over Bucknell on Saturday afternoon at DeNunzio Pool.
Chris Cottrell and Tommy Parolin both scored in the final two minutes of the first quarter to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead. Bucknell trimmed the lead to a goal early in the second quarter but goals from Tommy Donahue and Cottrell stretched Princeton's margin to 4-1 at the half. Both of Cottrell's goals came with the extra man.
Mike Helou scored out of a hole set early in the third to give the Tigers a five-goal lead before the Bison scored three straight to get within two goals at 5-3. Tim Wenzlau scored on a counter to make it 6-3 but another Bucknell goal made the score 6-4 entering the final frame.
Donahue added his second goal of the game on a counter midway through the fourth quarter to seal the 7-4 win for Princeton.
Donahue led all Tigers with four points on two goals and two assists. Cottrell added a single assist to go along with his two goals. Matt Hale added five steals in the win. Mike Merlone made 14 saves in the Princeton goal, including five in the second period and four in the third.
Princeton is now 10-5 overall and 4-0 to top the Southern Division. The Tigers host both Johns Hopkins and Navy next weekend.
