Nare Scores Twice As Men's Soccer Upsets No. 13 Brown, 3-0

PRINCETON, N.J. (10/9/10) - Sophomore Lester Nare scored two goals to lead the Princeton men's soccer team to a 3-0 upset of No. 13 Brown on Saturday, Oct. 9 on Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium.
The Bears entered today's game undefeated and had only allowed one goal in nine games.
Princeton improves to 6-3-1 on the season and extends its win streak to five in a row, scoring three goals in each of the last five games.
Senior Teddy Schneider assisted on two of the Tigers' goals.
Brown outshot Princeton 16-10 in the game, but both teams had five shots on goal apiece. Brown took 12 corners but could get nothing off of them except for a single shot that was saved. Princeton took four corners and scored off of two.
Senior goalkeeper Sean Lynch made three stops before sustaining an injury in the 68th minute after a collision at the top of the 18-yard box with Brown's Sean Rosa. Sophomore Max Gallin made his first appearance and made two saves in the final 22 minutes.
Nare put Princeton on the scoreboard in the 16th minute with help from sophomore Matt Sanner and Schneider. After junior Antoine Hoppenot was fouled and Rob Medairos was given a yellow card, Schneider took the restart from 20 yards out. Sanner headed the ball towards the goal and Nare was there to tap the ball in past goalkeeper Paul Grandstrand.
Hoppenot nearly made it 2-0 in the 23rd minute when he had a shot skim just wide of the open net as Grandstrand came out to cut off the angle.
Nare had his second shot on goal saved by Grandstrand after a Mark Linnville throw in, in the 30th minute. A Linnville throw almost led to another goal in the 44th minute when senior Benjamin Burton tested Grandstrang with a shot on goal.
Brown's best chances of the first came on a shot by Austin Mandel in the 35th when his shot bent just wide of the leaping Lynch, and an early header by Rosa that his the cross bar in the 15th minute.
Linnville made it 2-0 Princeton in the 59th minute scoring his first career goal with help from Schneider. Schneider crossed the ball into the box from the far side and Linnville headed it in on the near side.
Gallin came in on relief in the 68th minute and picked up his first career save a minute later when Thomas McNamara blasted a shot at the near post.
The Tigers took the pressure off of their young keeper with their third goal in the 70th minute. Schneider took a corner on the near side and was able to get the ball to Nare who headed the ball in on the far side of the goal.
T.J. Popolizio had a shot saved by Gallin inside the 18-yard box in the 78th minute. With less then two minutes to play Brown got close to scoring as the ball was pinballed around in the box but the Bears couldn't get a shot off.
Princeton improves to 2-0 in the Ivy League, while Brown drops to 1-1. Princeton travels to Lafayette on Tuesday, Oct. 12th for a non-conference match at 7 p.m.
