Women's Hoops Seeks to End Lehigh's Streak at Stabler on Sunday

PRINCETON (11/19/10) - The Princeton women's basketball team looks to overcome a heartbreaking 54-53 loss at Rutgers from Thursday, when it travels to play at Lehigh on Sunday, Nov. 21. Tip off is at 2 p.m., at Stabler Arena.
The game will be webstreamed for a fee of $6.95. Fans can also listen to Princeton's Derek Jones call the play-by-play and follow live stats, free of charge.
Both teams are ranked in the CollegeInside Mid-Major Poll. Princeton is ranked fourth, while Lehigh is ranked 18th.
Princeton is 1-1 on the season after opening the 2010 campaign with a 41-point victory over Fairleigh Dickinson on Nov. 13. The Tigers lost a heart breaker at Rutgers on Thursday, Nov. 18. Up by one, 53-52, Rutgers turned the ball over with 43 seconds to play and sophomore Niveen Rasheed hit the rim on her jumper. A fight for the ball ensued and the Scarlet Knights were given possession. Following a timeout Khadijah Rushdan hit the basket with 4.4 seconds left. Princeton threw a hail Mary as the buzzer sounded in defeat. The Tigers had a rough foul shooting game hitting 45.5 percent of their shots, but the team finished just one rebound back from Rutgers, and had seven steals and forced Rutgers into 16 turnovers, four more than Princeton had itself.
Sophomore Niveen Rasheed and junior Devona Allgood both average 14 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. Rasheed adds five assists and four steals while Allgood had three blocks and steals apiece. Senior Addie Micir is scoring 11.5 points per game with seven three-point field goals and has four assists, two blocks and two steals. Junior Lauren Edwards contributes 9.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game while adding five assists, four steals and three blocks. The Tigers are shooting 41.1 percent from the floor, 71.4 percent from the foul line and 25.7 percent from behind the arc. Prineton is averaging 65.5 points per game, a +20 margin over its opponents.
Princeton owns a 14-9 advantage in the all-time series with Lehigh, which began in 1983. The Tigers won last year's meeting 86-68 at Jadwin Gym. The last time Princeton was at Stabler Arena on Nov. 30, 2008, the Mountain Hawks took a 20-point game, 63-43.
Lehigh is 1-1 on the season after opening with a 70-65 loss at Duquesne before rebounding with a 72-64 win over Robert Morris exactly one week ago. Today's game will be Lehigh's home opener, which is significant for the Moutain Hawks. The team has not lost a home game in two seasons, a 33-game home winning streak, the third longest current streak in DI behind UConn and Stanford. The 2009 and 2010 Patriot League champion was picked to finish second to American in a close preseason poll with just two points separating the teams. Lehigh returns three of its starters from last season in Emily Gratch, aelxa Williams and leading scorer Erica Prosser. Prosser is leading the squad again this season, scoring 17.5 points per game and is clutch from the free-throw line shooting 76.9 percent. She also leads the team in assists with 10 and had a homecoming last week in Pittsburgh playing at Duquesne and RMU. Courtney Dentler averages 14.0 points per game and is the team leader under the basket with 7.0 rebounds per game, with all but one rebound coming on the defensive end. Kelly Peterson adds 7.5 points per game and Gratch chips in 7.0 points per game and is second on the team in rebounds with 5.5 per game. Gratch has a team-high five steals and has dished out four assists. The Mountain Hawkes are shooting 38.8 percent from the floor, 40 percent from long range and 65.9 percent from the line. Lehigh averages 68.5 points per game and hold teams to 67.0 points per game.
