Women's Basketball 2010-11 Season Preview

PRINCETON, N.J. (11/09/10) - Princeton head women's basketball coach Courtney Banghart discusses the upcoming season in an interview with GoPrincetonTigers.tv.
Princeton returns all five starters and from its most successful season in program history. The Tigers went 26-3 overall and reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time. The squad went 14-0 in the Ivy League to win the league and has been selected to win the league again this season in the preseason poll. Princeton lost just two letterwinners from the 2009-10 season and brings in three freshmen.
Four of Princeton's starters average double figures led by sophomore forward Niveen Rasheed, the 2010 Ivy League Rookie of the Year. Rasheed averaged 15.4 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. She also led the team in assists with 81 and steals with 64. Junior forward Lauren Edwards added 13.2 points per game and 4.6 rebouds per game. She finished second in blocks with 30, third in assists with 64 and third in steals with 39. Senior co-captain Addie Micir averaged 12.3 points per game due to the 66 three-pointers she hit. She is also the team's best free-throw shooter missing just 10 of her 59 shots for 83.1 percent. Junior post Devona Allgood brings down 7.8 rebounds per game and scores 10.8 points per game. She also led the team in blocks with 39. All four were named All-Ivy last season when the team had a +18.3 scoring margin over its opponents.
The Tigers will play a total of 28 games with 13 home games on the schedule. Princeton will face a number of tough opponents this season, including Rutgers, Southern California, Wake Forest and possibly Vanderbilt, all on the road. The Ivy League schedule kicks off on Saturday, Jan. 8 when Princeton hosts travel partner Penn at 6 p.m.
Princeton opens the 2010-11 season at home hosting Fairleigh Dickinson this Saturday, Nov. 13 at 4 p.m. Prior to tip off Princeton will raise its first NCAA banner.
