Billings Sets Record in Weight Throw as Women's Track & Field Opens Season

PRINCETON, N.J. (12/11/10) - Senior Thanithia Billings transcended the Princeton weight throw record by six inches, throwing to more than 63 feet as the Princeton women's track & field team opened the 2010-11 indoor season hosting the New Year's Invitational. Billings went on to win the shot put, while junior sprinter Eileen Moran was also a double winner on the track.
Billings and senior Emma Ruggiero continue to be Princeton's top throwers again this season. The pair finished first and second in the weight throw with each recording personal bests. Billings won the event with a throw of 19.21 meters, with Ruggiero reaching 18.30 meters.
Billings earned her second victory in the shot put, throwing to 14.32 meters. Senior Isabell von Loga placed second with a mark of 13.78.
Imani Oliver won the triple jump in her first time competing as a collegian. She found herself at 11.72 meters with senior Tiffany Liu taking third at 11.34. Liu was also fifth in the long jump, while sophomore Erin Guty was the runner-up with a mark of 5.56 meters.
Sophomore Tory Worthen continues her reign in the pole vault with a winning mark of 3.90 meters. Freshman Samantha Anderson and sophomore Lauren Tauscher tied for fourth as both reached 3.45.
Moran earned victories in the both the 60-meter dash and the 300-meter dash. Moran posted a time of 7.72 in the 60 after having the top time out of 49 sprinters in the preliminaries. Sophomore Erin Guty was third at 7.77 and sophomore Abidemi Adenikinju was fifth at 7.87.
Moran posted a personal best in the 300 cruising across the line at 40.36, besting herself by 0.26 seconds.
Following Moran in the 300 was junior Danielle Glaeser who finished second in 40.70, a personal best. Adenikinju and sophomore Joie Hand were fifth and sixth, respectively, at 41.7 and 42.54.
Sophomore Greta Feldman was Princeton's lone representative in the mile and she won the race with a time of 5:08.09, more than 10 seconds ahead of her second-place competitor from St. Joseph's.
Freshman Kristin Smoot won the 600 in a race of 28 runners with a time of 1:35.08. Junior Michelle Yousefian was second at 1:38.27 outmotoring Towson's best runner by two tenths of a second.
Out of the eight runners in the 1,000, Princeton grabbed places 1-2-3-4. Freshman Molly Higgins was first at 3:01.01, followed by classmate Kacie O'Neil at 3:05.40, junior Bernie DaCosta at 3:08.97 and sophomore Emily Livingston at 3:10.71.
Senior Lauren Barber placed third in the 60-meter hurdles at 8.99. Classmate Bianca Mathabane was also one of the top eight out of 31 that qualified for the finals and took fourth at 9:05
In the 4x400 relay, the group of Sarah Houtmann, Hand, Feldman, Smoot finished second at 4:00.73 to Towson that clocked in at 3:59.58.
Princeton will host a quad meet with Rutgers, St Joseph's and St. John's on Friday, Jan. 7.
