Women's Track & Field Wins Five in Final Meet Before Heps

Princeton, N.J. (2/19/11) - The Princeton women's track & field team competed in its final meet before the Ivy League Heptagonals as it hosted the Princeton Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 19 at Jadwin Gym.
Senior Emma Ruggiero recorded a new personal best as she won the weight throw. Ruggiero threw to 18.48 meters (60-7.75), nearly two feet further than second-place thrower Shianna Smith of Towson. The mark is 7.25 inches further than her prior mark of 18.30 (60-0.50) set at the New Years Invitational to start the 2011 indoor season.
Senior Isabell von Loga won the shot put with a throw of 13.83 (45-4.50), the only thrower to throw over 45 feet. It is the best throw for von Loga this season.
Sophomore Erin Guty was second overall and the first collegian in the long jump as she launched to 5.60 (18-4.50). Senior Tiffany Liu was third at 5.56 (18-3) and freshman Lily Miller was fifth at 5.38 (17-8).
In the high jump, freshman Theresa Kennedy was one of seven that would reach 1.60 (5-3) to finished in a seven-way first-place tie.
The first five places in the pole vault all went to Princeton. Sophomore Tory Worthen won the event reaching 3.80 (12-5.50), her second best mark of the season. Freshman Samantha Anderson, sophomore Lauren Tauscher and junior Lydia Arias all cleared 3.65 (11-11.75) to tie for second place and junior Bianca Reo was fifth at 3.50 (11-5.75).
Freshman Carrie Vuong won the 500 at 1:17.93 over 1.48 faster than Motara Okusaga of Towson. It was a record for the rookie, who ran 1:18 twice this season
Seniors Bianca Mathabane and Lauren Barber both qualified for the finals of the 60-meter hurdles. After running 8.95 in the prelims, Mathabane ran 8.79 in the finals to place second. Barber ran 8.90 in the finals after a 9.13 in the prelims to finish fourth.
In the 800, junior Bernie Da Costa ran 2:18.55 to finish fourth, and freshman Jasmine Blocker ran 26.00 in the 200 to place fifth.
