Women's Basketball Awaits Tough Test, Hosting 6-1 Drexel on Friday

PRINCETON (12/15/10) - The Princeton women's basketball team will face its toughest challenge as of late when it hosts 6-1 Drexel on Friday, Dec. 17 at 7 p.m.

Princeton improved to 7-2 with a 90-58 win over Lafayette on Monday night, its fourth straight win. Princeton has a +17.4 scoring margin over its opponents, scoring 71.9 and holding teams to 54.4 points per game. The Tigers are shooting 44.5 percent from the floor, 72.9 percent from the free-throw line and 38.2 percent from long range. Princeton ranks tops in the league in seven of 11 statistical categories, including: scoring defense, scoring margin, three-point field goal percentage, rebounding margin, blocked shots, assists and turnover margin. Niveen Rasheed leads all players in scoring and in rebounds. She averages 18.0 points per game and scored a career-high 28 against Lafayette on Monday, scoring 22 points in the first half. Rasheed pulls down 7.6 rebounds per game and leads the team in assists and steals with 28 and 20, respectively. Junior Devona Allgood adds 12.3 points per game and 6.8 rebounds per game. She has a team-best 13 blocks and has 14 steals. Senior Addie Micir contributes 11.4 points per game and has hit 26 three-pointers for a 44.1 three-point shooting percentage. She also is 9-for-9 from the free-throw line. Junior Lauren Edwards has missed just five of her 18 free throws this season as she scores 9.8 points per game. She is second on the team in blocks with nine and has 5.3 rebounds per game.Princeton has a 5-1 advantage in the all-time series with Drexel. Princeton has won the last four meetings including a 66-49 game last year in Philadelphia. Drexel's last win was a 55-48 game in 1984.
Drexel enters Friday's game with a 6-1 overall record. The Dragons are on five days of rest after defeating Seton Hall, 66-43 on Sunday. Drexel has only been outside of Philadelphia once this season, and it was the team's lone loss. Drexel fell to Virginia (5-4), 63-54 on Dec. 4. The Dragons have played just two games away from the Daskalakis Center and is 1-1 in those games. Drexel started the year 5-0, the best start in program history. The sport the fourth best scoring defense in the country, holding team's to 48 points. (Princeton ranks 29th), and is second in the nation in three-point percentage at 45.2 (Princeton is 6th). Drexel has a +14.6 scoring margin over its opponents, shooting 44.3 percent from the floor and 76.7 percent from the foul line. Kamile Nacickaite, the CAA Player of the Week, leads the team in scoring with 17.6 points per game, scoring 63 of her 123 points from long range as 50 percent three-point shooter. She is also the team leader in rebounds with 6.7 boards per game. Jasmina Rosseel adds 11.1 points per game also shoots well from behind the arc going 20-for-50. Rosseel leads the team in assists with 24. Tyler Hale and Taylor Wootton have 9.0 and 8.9 points per game, respectively. Wootton leads the team in steals with 11 and blocks with six.
