PRINCETON (12/27/10) - The Princeton women's basketball team will leave the Nor'easter behind as it travels to North Carolina this week. The Tigers will play their first game since before the holiday, when they take on Davidson on Wednesday, Dec. 29 at 7 p.m. Two days later, Wake Forest hosts the Tigers are 2 p.m., on New Year's Eve.
Fans can watch the live webstream by purchasing a single game package for $5.95. Fans can also listen to the live play-by-play by Princeton's broadcaster Derek Jones, who will make the trip with the Tigers, and follow live stats free of charge.
In keeping with tradition, in which Princeton will pay a visit to each of its players hometowns during their collegiate careers, the Tigers are in the hometown of Devona Allgood. A Huntersville, N.C., native Allgood attended North Mecklenburg High School.
Princeton returns from the holiday break with an 8-3 overall record. The Tigers are coming off of a 70-61 double overtime loss at St. Joseph's from Dec. 19. Princeton is shooting 43.5 percent from the floor, 70.7 percent from the line and 37.9 percent from long range. The Tigers average 70.2 points per game, a +14.5 scoring margin. Sophomore Niveen Rasheed leads the team and the league in scoring with 16.7 points per game. She also leads the Tigers in rebounding with 7.5 boards per game and has a team-high 24 steals, to go along with 32 assists, second best on the squad. Allgood is second in scoring and rebounds with 12.1 points and 6.8 boards per game. She is the team leader in blocks with 14 Senior Addie Micir adds 11.8 points per game and is nearing in on 1,000 career points. She is the team's best free-throw shooter, missing just one of her 17, and leads the league in three pointers made with 32. Junior Lauren Edwards is also in double digits in scoring with 10.9 points per game and is second on the team in blocks with 12. Sophomore Lauren Polansky leads the Tigers in assists with 35 and has 23 steals.
Davidson is 4-4 on the season and is coming off of a tough one-point loss at Elon in the Southern Conference opener on Dec. 20. The Wildcats are shooting 40.7 percent from the floor, 32.1 percent from behind the arc and 73.5 percent from the line. The team averages 60.8 points per game, a +1 scoring margin over its opponents. Sophomore Sophia Aleksandravicius is the team's leading scorer with 17.4 points per game and leading rebounder with 8.4 boards per game. She also leads the team in blocks with 33 and steals with 15. Kristen Johnsen adds 11.4 points and 7.6 rebounds and Laura Murray contributes 11.3 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. All three are excellent shooters when fouled, shooting over 81 percent each. Ashley Lax is the player who will shoot the three most often, along with Murray, who each have 30 attempts. Barbara Sitton leads the team in assists with 27, as the starting point guard.
This will be the first meeting between Princeton and Davidson. Princeton has played two SoCon schools, Samford and Elon and is 1-2 against those teams.
