PRINCETON (12/30/10) - The Princeton women's basketball team looks to leave Tobacco Road with a clean sweep when it takes on Wake Forest on New Year's Eve day at 2 p.m., at Lawrence Joel Coliseum.
The game will not be webstreamed but fans can also listen to the live play-by-play by Princeton's broadcaster Derek Jones and follow live stats free of charge.
Princeton is coming off of a 67-61 win over Davidson and is 9-3 overall and 3-3 when playing away from Jadwin Gym. The Tigers average 69.9 points per game, a +13.8 scoring margin over their opponents. Princeton shoots 43.6 percent from the floor, 71.3 percent from the free-throw line and 38.5 percent from behind the arc. The Tigers have four players averaging double digits in scoring, led by sophomore Niveen Rasheed with 16.4 points per game. She is also the team's leading rebounder with 7.3 boards per game and has a team-best 29 steals. Junior Devona Allgood is scoring on the team in both catergories with 12.3 points and 6.9 rebounds per game, while leading the team in blocks with 16. Classmate Lauren Edwards has 13 boards, and adds 10.9 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. Senior Addie Micir is chipping in 12.2 points per game and is the team's best free-throw shooter and three-point shooter, with a rate of 92 percent from the line and 41.7 percent from long range.
Wake Forest is off to a 7-6 start on the season and most recently dropped a 64-57 game to Appalachian State at home on Wednesday afternoon. ASU raced out to a 21-point first half lead and the Deacons couldn't recover. Prior to the holiday break, the Deacons won two straight, against Maryland Eastern Shore and Furman, to right the ship after a four-game losing streak. Wake's game with Princeton will be its fourth straight home game in a six-game home stretch. The team has lost twice at home this season, with a 5-2 mark. They average 71.8 points per game, a +10.8 scoring margin over their opponents, and are even betting at home averaging 76.8 points per game. With a four guard-one center lineup, Wake shoots a clip of 37.8 percent from the floor, 25.3 percent from long range and 68.1 percent from the line. Two players are in double digits in scoring led by Brittany Waters with 12.4 points per game, while adding 5.2 rebounds and 15 blocks Sandra Garcia is second with 10.4 points per game and is the leading rebounder with 6.6 boards per game. Off the bench, Chelsea Douglas adds 9.5 points per game as does Lakevia Boykin. Also off the bench, Brooke Thomas leads the team in assists with 42 and steals with 31.
Wake Forest holds a 6-1 lead in the all-time series with Princeton. The Tigers won the first meeting, 72-71 on Dec. 19, 1980. The Demon Deacons won the next six games, the last one in 2004, a 76-43 game in North Carolina. Princeton is 2-13 against the ACC, last beating North Carolina, 71-69, at Jadwin Gym during the Princeton Invitational in 1989.
