Eddy Morrissey Named Offensive Line Coach At Princeton
February 01, 2010 | Football
Eddy Morrissey, who has nearly two decades' worth of coaching experience and several ties within the new staff, has been named the new offensive line coach at Princeton, it was announced Monday by Bob Surace '90, the Charles W. Caldwell Jr. '23 Head Coach of Football.
“I am so excited that the Princeton University offensive line will be coached by Eddy Morrissey,” Surace said. “I have followed Eddy's career since he was a graduate assistant at Springfield College with both Jared Backus and my brother. He has had tremendous success at the Ivy League level, FCS scholarship level, at Oregon, and most recently at Fordham where he was part of the FCS leader in total offense."
Morrissey comes to Princeton after a one-year stint at Fordham, where he coached the Rams' offensive line and tight ends as well as serving as the recruiting coordinator. Fordham averaged 28.5 points per game and 488.8 yards per offense last season; the year prior, Fordham averaged 21.6 points and 384.2 yards of total offense per game.
“This is an excellent opportunity for me to work at such a prestigious university,” said Morrissey, who has three years of Ivy League experience as an assistant at Brown. “I loved my time in the Ivy League, and I loved working with James Perry. I enjoyed that experience, and now I am looking forward to working with Coach Surace.”
During his time at Oregon, Morrissey assisted with the Ducks' defensive line in 2006 before moving to the offensive side of the football in 2007. During his time in Eugene, Ore., Morrissey coached in three bowl games, the 2006 Las Vegas Bowl, 2007 Sun Bowl and the 2008 Holiday Bowl.
Prior to his stay in Oregon, Morrissey spent two seasons as the running backs coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Massachusetts. While at UMass, Morrissey coached a two-time first-team all-conference running back and its recruiting class was ranked No. 2 in the country in 2004.
Morrissey also served as an assistant at Northeastern, where he worked with Princeton defensive backs coach Jim Salgado, from 1999-2003 and as an assistant at Brown University from 1997-99, helping the Bears to the 1999 Ivy League title. His quarterback at Brown was Perry, who went on to become the all-time passing leader in the Ivy League.
Following his graduation from Plymouth State College in 1992, Morrissey remained with the Panthers as a student assistant in 1993. A quarterback in college, he then became a graduate assistant at Springfield College from 1994-1996.
