Women's Basketball Hits the Road to Take on Columbia/Cornell

PRINCETON, N.J. (2/10/10) - The Princeton women's basketball team will hit the road the next two weekends. The Tigers will play at Columbia on Friday, Feb. 12 and Cornell on Saturday, Feb. 13. Both games begin at 7 p.m.

Princeton sports a 17-2 overall record winning more games thus far in the season than it did at the conclusion of the last three seasons. The Tigers are 5-0 in the Ivy League to sit atop the league standings. The team is receiving votes in the national poll and is the middle of 12-game winning streak. The Tigers are averaging 71.1 points per game and holding opponents to 52.3 points, for a +18.8 scoring margin. The team also has a +5.6 rebounding margin. Princeton is shooting 44.9 percent from the floor, 38.2 percent from long range and 70 percent from the free throw line. Leading the Tigers in scoring is freshman Niveen Rasheed with 14.9 points per game. She is second on the team in rebounds with 7.7 boards per game. She leads the team in assists with 55 and steals with 41. Junior Addie Micir is the team's top three-point and free-throw shooter at 46.3 and 84.6 percents, respectively. She averages 13.7 points per game, 3.5 rebounds per game, in addition to 45 assists and 17 steals. Sophomore Lauren Edwards adds 13.5 points per game and 4.4 rebounds per game, while chipping in 43 assists, 25 steals and 19 blocks. Teammate Devona Allgood leads the team in rebounds with 7.9 boards per game and is scoring 10.3 points per game. She leads the team in blocks with 30 and has 17 steals and 15 assists. Freshman Lauren Polansky is second on the team in assists and steals with 48 and 26, respectively.
Princeton holds a 34-16 advantage in the all-time series with Columbia. The Tigers swept the series last year, 69-59 on the road and 68-63 at Jadwin Gym. Prior to that the Lions won three straight games. When playing at Columbia, Princeton is 16-9.
Columbia is off to its best start in program history with a 13-7 overall record and a 4-2 mark in the Ivy League. The team is 6-2 at home and averages 66.2 points per game while holding teams to 61. The Lions are shooting 41.1 percent from the field, 35.4 percent from behind the arc and 66.3 percent from the free throw line. The Ivy League's leading scorer Judie Lomax averages a double-double per game with 19.1 points and 14.3 rebounds per game. She leads the team in steals with 45, while also adding 56 assists. She shoots 53.8 percent from the floor but hasn't attempted a three-point basket this season. Kathleen Barry adds 11.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game while adding 39 steals, 22 assists and 12 blocks. Lauren Dwyer leads the team in blocks with 31, while contributing 10.4 points and 4.7 rebouds per game. Danielle Browne is the team's assist leader with 87 helpers.
Princeton is 38-20 in the all-time series with Cornell. The Tigers won both games last season, 75-56 on the road and 76-55 at home. The Big Red do own the edge in the last five meetings, 3-2. When playing in Ithaca, Princeton holds a slim 15-13 advantage.
Cornell enters the weekend with a 5-14 overall record and an 0-6 mark in Ivy League play. The Big Red are on an 11-game losing streak having not won a game since a 71-67 victory over Manhattan. Cornell nearly knocked off Dartmouth on Jan. 29, losing by just two points, 55-53. The team is shooting 36.4 percent from the floor, and averaging 58.5 points per game while its opponents are averaging 69.9 points per game. Allie Fedorowicz leads the team in scoring with 12.7 points per game and had 3.6 rebounds per game. She leads the team in steals with 23 and adds 36 assists and six blocks. Virginia McMunigal is the team's sharpest three-point and free-throw shooter, hitting 43.8 percent from the outside and 84.6 from the line. She averages 9.4 points per game while teammate Claire Fitzpatrick averages 8.6 points per game and 4.8 rebounds per game. Lauren Benson contributes 4.0 rebounds per game, 8.0 points per game and leads the team in assists with 99. Allie Munson has a team-best 10 blocks, while leading the team in rebounds with 5.1 per game and chipping in 4.7 points per game.
